Cookie Mix in a Snowman Jar

Yesterday, we made chocolate chip cookie mix in a jar for a teacher. It turned out really cute, but we made it at night and the lighting was terrible, so I made another one for our neighbors, that I can show you. I got the recipe on Pinterest, and the idea was a collaboration of wits at our house. We turned the jar into a snowman.

You can find a huge list of chocolate chip cookies in a jar on Pinterest. I got my recipe from here.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix in a Jar
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Directions
Mix together flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Set aside. In a 1-quart jar layer granulated sugar, half the brown sugar, the chocolate chips, remaining brown sugar and the flour mixture. Top with lid and decorate the jar with fabric or ribbons. Attach a label.
For the label:
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 375° F. Beat butter, egg and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until blended. Add contents of jar and mix well. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets slightly before moving to wire racks to cool completely.
Makes about 2 dozen cookies.

These are the supplies you need to make the snowman jar: A hot glue gun, glue sticks, Christmas-y paper or a small card, card stock, a piece of fabric, tape, felt, twine, and scissors.

For the head, you need to cut a shape that looks like this. It should be long enough to wrap around the lid of the jar. (shown in next picture). The circle should be the size of the paper when it is wrapped around the lid.

This is what you need to make a top hat for the snowman. The long piece of felt should be long enough to be wrapped around the inside of the brim of the hat. the small circle is the top of the hat and the other piece is the brim.

Next, you need to glue the brim of the hat to the snowman's head.

After that, we took the long strip of felt and glued it around the inside of the brim as I said above.

Then you glue the circle to the top of the hat to finish it off.

You have to add a label to the jar to show the rest of the ingredients and directions shown in the recipe at the top of the page. We used a cute piece of Christmas paper and turned it into a card as well.

You can tie the card on with some twine or ribbon, and tuck it under the scarf.

This is a very simple, quick, and inexpensive last-minute gift for Christmas. It took about an hour, at the most. It also doubles as a Christmas decoration. Who wouldn't want this guy for Christmas?
